Games
Each game puts you inside the market the lecture is about. The games run on your phone; you join with a username.
| Game | The question |
|---|---|
| Game 1: Coase bargaining | Do property rights and transaction costs matter for reaching an efficient outcome without a regulator? |
| Game 2: Permit trading | How does a permit market find its price, and does the way permits are handed out change what happens? |
| Game 3: Hedonic sorting | How do household preferences and housing supply produce sorting and a price gradient? |
How to join
All three games are at envecon-games.netlify.app. Open it on your phone when I say so, pick the game and join with your first name and initial, or with your team’s name in the team games. The QR code is also on the first slide of the session.

- One phone per player in the Coase game, one per team in the other two.
- Keep the page open during the game. Phases, clocks and results update by themselves.
- If the page closes, open the link again and join with the same name.
What happens to the data
Each game leaves a record: the deals and prices in the Coase game, every permit trade with its time, where each household type settled. We use it in the following lecture and I post it on Blackboard. The record carries the names you join with. Nothing you do in a game counts towards your grade.
